Introduced by the National Arboretum in Washington D.C. this crabapple only gets to be about 15'-18' tall with only a 6-8' spread. It buds in late April and will turn red. It then creates a showy bloom for weeks prior to opening to large, waxy, pure white flowers all along the stems. The nice, dark green foliage all summer turns a colorful orange and reddish just before dropping. It then shows small, tomato soup colored orange-red fruit, which persists into the winter months. This crabapple tree is an excellent selection that requires little if any pruning, is disease free, and well suited for smaller gardens and landscapes.

Preparation

Best grown in medium moisture, well-drained, acidic loams in full sun.
Adapts to a wide range of soils.
Established trees have some drought tolerance.
Plant as a specimen/accent or in small groups.
Plant in spring or fall. (spring is better for B&B plants).
Be sure to space plants 10 to 20 feet apart, depending on the expected mature size of the variety.
